The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has received volunteers of Day for Dubai initiative launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council. The initiative aims at embedding the culture of volunteering through encouraging community member to designate at least one day of the year for volunteering activities. The step, which is coordinated with the administrators of the initiative and a host of volunteers with the aim of supporting the traffic movement in Dubai, was named: Traffic Awareness Ambassadors.

Eng. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, said, “Since the launch of the initiative by the end of 2017, the Agency was engaged in coordination with the concerned bodies of the Dubai Day initiative. It has been agreed to open volunteering channels for delivering RTA’s business such as improving the traffic safety level in Dubai. The Agency has received more than 70 volunteering applications for promoting traffic awareness of community members.

“The Agency has held meetings with volunteers in RTA’s Head Office and thanked them for their interactions with the issues raised. It explained to them the ‘Traffic Awareness Ambassadors’ initiative in a bid to broadcast the traffic awareness messages to the largest possible number of community members. It will prepare a monthly awareness message and circulate it to volunteers such that they will repost it via social media channels to their friends and associates. The most active individuals in this regard will be rewarded in coordination with Dubai Day initiative.

“Over the past years, the Traffic and Roads Agency had intensified awareness efforts using modern technologies to prepare objective and short messages for broadcasting among community members through smart media, text messages targeting about 400 thousand persons per month. It had also broadcasted such messages through large-size ads in Dubai roads targeting about 500 thousand drivers per day,” added Maitha.

“At the same time, the Agency is keen on broadcasting awareness messages through social media platforms of the RTA, partners as well as public and private entities. Messages were also displayed on virtual messaging signs recently installed in many parts of Dubai as part of the so-called The Smart Village Project aimed at promoting the experience of the Smart City.

“The awareness messages and guidance are currently available in 37 screens, and the number is expected to cover 50 screens by the end of this year. About 40 thousand persons have surfed these screens and benefited from its services directly during the first month,” concluded the CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency.
