The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has graduated 66 taxi drivers; the first batch of cabbies affiliated to various taxi franchise companies in Dubai. The step has been accomplished in coordination with the Emirates Driving Institute in Dubai, and a graduation ceremony has recently been held at RTA Head Office.

Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of Public Transport Agency, RTA, said, “The graduation of 66 cabdrivers is the first deliverable of the privatisation of taxi drivers training agreement signed by the Public Transport Agency with the Emirates Driving Institute in Dubai. The procedure is aimed to improve the calibre of training taxi drivers in Dubai.

“All drivers engaged in passenger transport services have been subjected to intensive training courses offering them exposure to globally recognised scientific materials to improve their performance, attitudes and efficiency. The training aims to encourage trainees to deliver excellent customers service, verify their readiness, empower them to implement the content of scientific materials in practice. All of them have completed the training course,” he said.

“The privatisation of drivers engaged in passenger transport services stems from RTA’s keenness to improve passengers transport systems in Dubai and introduce best-in-class practices of training and qualification. It also capitalises on the experience of the government sector and enhances the partnership with the private sector. Such a process will improve the quality of transport operation, and consolidate the monitoring and supervisory role of the RTA in streamlining the operation of the public transport network.

“The Public Transport Agency attaches paramount attention to the training of passenger transport drivers through adopting advanced techniques, top global practices and cutting-edge technologies in training and qualification of drivers. It views them as ambassadors in delivering services to customers, thus ensures the quality of services and customers happiness as well,” added Bahrozyan.

“The RTA firmly believes in the importance of training in grooming better class drivers who have the technical knowledge to improve their skills and better perform their daily jobs and responsibilities. The training of drivers and honing their skills is part of RTA’s 7th Strategic Goal (Advance RTA).
