HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has received Baroness Rona Fairhead, British Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion.

A host of executives from RTA and the accompanying delegation of the Minister attended the meeting, which discussed means of boosting cooperation between RTA and its British counterpart. Issues discussed included transportation, trains, and driverless vehicles as well as RTA’s development plans in these fields.

At the start of the meeting, Al Tayer welcomed the British Minister and hailed the cooperation between RTA and British firms operating in roads and transport networks.

Al Tayer briefed the British delegation on key infrastructure projects undertaken by RTA covering roads and transportation networks. Projects include rail projects costing billions of dirhams such as Route 2020 involving the extension of the Dubai Metro Red Line to the site of Expo 2020. The future projects portfolio also includes the extension of the Green Line, Phase II of Dubai Tram and other road projects that offer good opportunities for firms to bid for RTA tenders.

The meeting also discussed RTA’s driverless mobility efforts including autonomous pods, 2-seater autonomous air taxi, autonomous taxi and the 10-seater autonomous vehicle.

The British Minister was delighted for the involvement of British firms in RTA projects and expressed hope to boost cooperation and exchange expertise in the interest of both parties.
