Vehicle ownership renewal in case of lost or damaged plate

  1. Enter the information.

  4. RTA verifies the insurance and the valid technical inspection of the vehicle.
  5. Select the delivery service to receive the plates and the certificate (and to hand over the old plates if damaged).
  6. Enter the contact information and the address, then select the delivery date.
  7. Review the information and agree to the terms and conditions.
  8. Pay the fees.
  9. Receive a notification confirming that the fees are paid and that the delivery is being prepared.

Important to Know

You Should Have

  1. As per the Federal Traffic Law, your vehicle registration is valid for a maximum of 12 months. After that, there's a 30-day grace period for renewal. Your insurance must be valid for at least 6 months, including this grace period, to ensure coverage in case of accidents during that time.

You Should Know

  1. You or your legal representative must be present in person when applying at Customer Happiness or Inspection Centres.
  2. You can renew vehicles that don't need technical inspection through online channels only.
  3. The vehicle must pass the traffic safety test.
  4. If you don't renew the expired vehicle registration within 2 months of its expiry, your Traffic File will be blocked and you'll be notified by SMS.
  5. If you're late to renew the vehicle ownership, you must pay late fees, based on the vehicle category and the duration of the delay.
  6. If the vehicle for which you're renewing the ownership is outside the country, you must present an Inspection Certificate, ratified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE embassy in the concerned country as well as the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the technical inspection centre within 1 month. If you're a GCC national, you're exempted from ratifying the documents.
  7. You can renew the vehicle ownership up to 150 days before its expiry.
  8. If you purchase a private vehicle from a local authorised dealer, you can register and renew it for 3 years without technical inspection.
  9. Re-registration terms apply if your vehicle ownership is expired.
  10. If you renew the Vehicle Licence before it expires, the validity of the ownership is calculated from the application submission date.
  11. Any change of ownership requires a technical inspection, even if done during the first 3 years.
  12. On Sundays,  Al Yalayis Vehicle Testing and  Muhaisna Shamil centres only provide inspection services.

  1. Q : If my Vehicle Ownership Certificate is expired, what fines do I have to pay?
    • A : You must pay all vehicle pending fines, and all Salik fines registered on your Traffic File. You can pay these fines only at the federal branches, the Licensing Department in Deira and Al Barsha, and at Customer Happiness Centre - Umm Ramool.
  2. Q : If I own more than 1 vehicle, which one must I renew first?
    • A : If you own 2 or more vehicles, you must always start by renewing or removing the one registered in your Traffic File that expires first.
  3. Q : If my vehicle is registered in another emirate and my residence visa is from that same emirate, can I renew the vehicle ownership in Dubai?
    • A : No, you must consult the licensing authorities in the other emirate.

    • A : As per the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, tyres are valid for a maximum of 5 years from the date of manufacture. But if the tyres are damaged, you must change them to pass the technical inspection. You must present a registration card to inspect the vehicle.
  7. Q : If I don't have the RTA application, can I print the Vehicle Licence at the service centre?
    • A : You don't need a customer service representative to print the Vehicle Licence. You can print it through the link you received.

    • A : You can check your personal details though RTA Call Centre on 800 90 90, or print the Ownership e-Card through the  Document Validation service . Select Vehicle Licence as product type, then enter the vehicle details to trigger the print order.

    • A : Removing a vehicle from the Traffic File is cancelling it from the traffic system either through a Vehicle Ownership Certificate, a Transfer Certificate, or an Export Certificate. To remove the vehicle, you must present the original Emirates ID + copy of it.
