RTA celebrates International Women’s Day in style

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has held several events to mark International Women’s Day under the theme: ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality’. Events held aimed to celebrate the achievements and vital roles of women in the community and their immense contribution to social and economic development as well as protecting families and the upbringing of children. 

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Executive Directors, RTA, honoured a group of distinguished female employees and female pioneers in digitisation. The felicitation was a gesture of recognition of their excellent results and achievements on professional, scientific and personal levels, as well as their constant endeavours to deliver on RTA’s strategic goals and objectives.

During a gathering with female employees, Al Tayer stressed RTA’s keenness to enhance the presence of women in leadership, specialised and administrative positions. Currently, there are more than 880 female employees actively engaged in RTA’s business and RTA has provided a welcoming environment for their empowerment and progression to take senior posts. last year, RTA rolled out a master training plan for the active participation of females in driving RTA and supporting its leadership role. About 600 female employees of various job grades have been qualified for leadership roles through training programmes conducted in cooperation with universities and international organisations. 

Women's Empowerment

Moaza Al Marri, Executive Director of the Office of the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chair of RTA’s Women's Committee, congratulated Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chair of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood (Mother of the Emirates), on the occasion of International Women's Day.

“God blessed our country with a wise leadership that prioritises the wellbeing of citizens and the empowerment of women to have an active role in supporting the building and prosperity of the nation. This drive was initiated since the establishment of the federation by the late founding leader Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. A local day (28th August) was designated to celebrate Emirati women in appreciation of their efforts and achievements,” said Al Marri.

“The United Arab Emirates has been fair to women in every respect and accorded full attention to empowering them in the society towards achieving gender balance such that Emirates females can make impressive achievements. Consequently, Emirati females have now become parliamentarians, ministers, ambassadors, successful entrepreneurs, and skilled specialists in all walks of life. The bar was raised further on their ambitions now to conquer space by having the first Arab female astronaut as part of a national team of astronauts who are capable of achieving the UAE’s aspirations in scientific expeditions,” she added.

Technology and Innovation

“As the UAE is focused on technology and innovation, we are commemorating International Women's Day by celebrating women who have contributed to the advancement of technological transformation. It also highlights the efforts of women in technology and their contributions to creative solutions and innovation for economic and social prosperity,” concluded Al Marri. 

Discussion Session

Marking International Women's Day 2023, RTA’s Women's Committee hosted Her Excellency Raja Al Mazrouei, Managing Director and Acting CEO of Etihad Credit Insurance and a leader in digital transformation. She is ranked among the most powerful women working in the field of fintech, which is related to the employment and use of technology in financial services.

During the session, Her Excellency Raja Al Mazrouei called on female employees to take advantage of the opportunities and initiatives provided by the UAE to support, empower and groom women to reach the world. She called on UAE women to have leading roles in all areas related to artificial intelligence and technology, especially as technology is greatly impacting the global economy, living standards, and international trade.

"We are proud of the global standing of Emirati women who have made many scientific and professional achievements for the nation. Emirati women are also characterised by their passion and continuous ambition to achieve the highest ranks, and this success is firmly entwined with the national strategy for women's empowerment," continued Al Mazrouei.

Technology skills

“It is important for Emirati women to hone their technological skills by applying high technologies and artificial intelligence in work, communication and management to achieve their goals and improve productivity. We live in the age of digitisation and digital transformation, which requires us to be fully aware of how to deal with technology and apply it to reduce the gender gap and achieve gender balance,” she added.
 
Digital Donation Campaign

The celebrations of International Women’s Day saw the launch of a digital donation campaign under the theme (An old device here, an icon for a bright future there) in cooperation with public benefit organisations. The campaign aims to raise donations in the form of electronic devices from RTA employees for redistribution to women in developing countries in a bid to bridge the digital gap.
