To issue the permit
- The company representative logs in to the Special Driving Permits Management platform.
- The company representative enters the driver's Emirates ID number to add him to the drivers’ list.
- If the driver has a valid medical test result, the fees are paid and the Occupational Driving Permit is issued.
- If the driver doesn’t have a valid medical test result, the driver is referred to one of the accredited hospitals to undergo the medical test, then the fees are paid and the Occupational Driving Permit is issued.
- Once the permit is issued, the company representative can download a copy anytime through the Special Driving Permits Management platform.
- The driver receives the permit by SMS and can check and download it through his dashboard on the RTA website.
To renew the permit
- The company representative logs in to the Special Driving Permits Management platform.
- The company representative selects the permit to be renewed.
- If the driver has a valid medical test result, the fees are paid and the Occupational Driving Permit is renewed.
- If the driver doesn’t have a valid medical test result, the driver is referred to one of the accredited hospitals to undergo the medical test, then the fees are paid and the Occupational Driving Permit is renewed.
- Once the permit is issued, the company representative can download a copy anytime through the Special Driving Permits Management platform.
- The driver receives the permit by SMS and can check and download it through his dashboard on the RTA website.

- Q: If I have a Special Driving Permit, can I use it to drive for more than one company?
- A: No. According to RTA rules, if you have a Special Driving Permit, you can only drive for the company under which you're registered.
- Q: If I'm a light bus driver, do I need to apply for the Occupational Driving Permit?
- A: Light bus drivers aren't required to apply for this service. Only heavy vehicles and heavy bus drivers need to apply for this permit.
- Q: If I'm a light vehicle driver under the company sponsorship, should I apply for the Occupational Driving Permit?
- A: No, light vehicle drivers under the company sponsorship don't need this permit. Only light vehicle drivers under personal sponsorship need to apply for this permit by visiting one of the accredited hospitals.
- Q: If I have a Driving Licence from another emirate, should I apply for an Occupational Driving Permit?
- A: Yes, the Occupational Driving Permit is mandatory for drivers as per UAE Federal Traffic Law. The company must add the drivers and apply for the service.
