Dubai (United Arab Emirates) is being hosted first-time in the MENA Region by the Roads & Transport Authority with a theme of “Smart Driving in Future Cities” under the patronage of His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Commissioner General for Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Well-Being Pillar, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority – Dubai.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) development is increasingly being utilized in many areas, vehicle manufacturers around the world are doubling their efforts to develop vehicles that are equipped with most advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Similarly, different governments are investing heavily towards building the cities of the future or the so-called smart cities. No doubt these developments will help make city living more comfortable. On the other hand, this also poses numerous challenges especially on the aspect of road safety. More technological advancements in vehicles mean more information needed to be learned and processed by would-be drivers. This also means that testing authorities like RTA and testing organizations like CIECA will need to work closely together to make assessment more efficient in order to match the rapid advances in automotive industry and the modernization of major cities around the world. The 56th CIECA Congress and Exhibition in Dubai will provide a suitable forum to discuss these challenges (and perhaps solutions) relevant to Driving in Future Cities.
