For inspecting a trailer or semi-trailer

  1. Bring the trailer or semi-trailer to the service centre.
  2. The chassis number is engraved.
  3. The trailer or semi-trailer is inspected and its plate numbers are issued.
  4. Pay the fees.
  5. Receive the Technical Inspection Certificate through email.

For inspecting a classical vehicle

  1. Bring the classical vehicle which is over 30 years old for inspection.
  2. Pay the fees.
  3. Receive the Technical Inspection Certificate through email, proving that the vehicle is valid before continuing with the final licensing procedure.

For inspecting other types of vehicles

  1. Bring the vehicle to the centre for inspection.
  2. Pay the fees.
  3. Confirm your email to receive the certificate electronically.

You Should Do

  1. Submit vehicles linked to a commercial activity to a specialised inspection from the concerned entity, so that they're valid for the Technical Inspection.
  2. Verify that all set conditions are met before applying for the inspection of trailers and semi-trailers at the service centre.
  3. Book an appointment for company vehicles Technical Inspection through the company profile and not through the individuals' personal accounts.
  4. Book an appointment through the  website or  RTA Dubai for the vehicle Technical Inspection for the following inspection services: registration, renewal, and export with plates. No reservation is required for People of Determination and Senior Emiratis vehicles which are registered in Dubai.

You Should Know

  1. If you're the first owner of the vehicle and it's new and has no mileage, it's exempted from the Technical Inspection for a period of 3 years from the year of manufacture or the year of registration (whichever comes first).
  2. If you wish to appeal the result of the Technical Inspection, you can book an appointment to present it to the Technical Inspection Committee through the Vehicle Registration and Inspection Centres.
  3. You or your legal representative must be present in person when appealing against the results of the vehicle Technical Inspection.
  4. You must undertake to bring the vehicle for inspection at the specified place and time, so that the Technical Inspection Committee can make a decision on the appeal against the result of the vehicle Technical Inspection.
  5. The Technical Inspection Committee issues a decision on the appeal after 5 working days.
  6. After inspecting the vehicle, the Technical Inspection Committee decision is considered final and it can't be reconsidered until you submit a new request after fixing all issues.
  7. The vehicle must comply with all validity and general safety conditions.
  8. Expected time to inspect the vehicle:
    • Light vehicle, light bus, and motorcycle: 32 minutes
    • Heavy vehicle, heavy bus, and trailer and semi-trailer: 45 minutes.
  9. You must undertake to bring the vehicle to the centre for inspection no more than 15 minutes before or after the appointment.
  10. The optional service is available, if you don't wish to book an appointment in advance, for AED 100 at all Technical Inspection Centres, with the exception of the following centres:

Terms and Conditions

  • The Technical Inspection Certificate from outside the UAE for commercial vehicles is accepted only once for renewal purposes. The vehicle must be inspected for the following year at the service centres in the Emirate of Dubai.
  • Vehicles with special characteristics such as mobile kitchens or vehicles with modified bodies are transferred to the Technical Inspection Committee at the Licensing Department.

  1. Q : What's the procedure if I want to perform substantial modifications to the vehicle (modification to the engine or body of the vehicle)?
    • A :
      • If the vehicle is imported by the local dealer, he's authorised to execute specific modifications.
      • If the vehicle is pre-equipped and imported from outside the UAE, it's transferred to the technical committee at the Technical Inspection section.

      • For licensed vehicles: Submit the application in person or through Dubai Police General Headquarters smart application to obtain a permit from the General Department of Criminal Investigation.

    • A : Locally manufactured and imported trailers and semi-trailers must comply with the following technical conditions:
      • Maximum dimensions
        • The height from the ground till the highest point mustn't exceed 4.2m, the total length of the trailer and semi-trailer 18m, and its width 2.6m.
        • The total length of the vehicle carrier trailer mustn't exceed 23m, its width 2.6m and its height 4.2m.
      • Lighting and Reflectors Systems
        • Stop lights and signal lights must work properly in the truck or trailer.
        • Lighting apparatus must be linked and connected between the truck and motor-car and the trailer and semi-trailer.
        • Front and back side marker lights must be mounted on both sides of the trailer or semi-trailer if it was wider than 1.2m to highlight its total width.
        • Warning signals must be mounted on the trailer or semi-trailer to be able to see its light at night from 150m.
        • Rear, front, and side reflectors must be mounted on the trailers and semi-trailers.
        • Back and side plates must be mounted with white plate lights to make it easier to see them.
      • Body systems and towing requirements
        • The body must be strong enough to take the weight of a full load.
        • The body must be built in a proper and secure way.
        • The body must be well equipped to prevent trailer separation accidents.
        • Trailers and semi-trailers must have lateral and rear impact guards to prevent small vehicles from under-running.
      • General safety requirements
        • Trailers and semi-trailers must have fenders or flaps on the rear wheels to prevent pebbles, mud, or any other material from being thrown from the wheels up to other vehicles behind.
        • Trailers and semi-trailers must have a parking brake to keep them securely motionless when parked on flat roads or slopes.
        • Trailers and semi-trailers must have the essential tire repair tools.
        • Trailers and semi-trailers must be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system and an emergency kit.
  5. Q : What are the general safety standards of classical vehicles?
    • A :
      • The vehicle age must be 30 years or more.
      • The tyres must be suitable for driving.
      • The interior and exterior of the vehicle body mustn't be eroded by nature.
      • All internal parts of the vehicle must function properly.
      • Brake and lighting systems must be homogeneous and working properly.
      • The car engine must function properly and efficiently, without any sign of leakage of fuel, lubricant, or coolant water from the bottom or sides of the engine.
  6. Q: Is the Technical Inspection required for the registration of new motorcycles?
    • A: No, the Technical Inspection isn't required for the registration of new motorcycles (which meet all required conditions). However, it's required for registration renewal.
