DIPMF Discusses the Role of Leadership in Turning Community Aspirations into Actionable Projects
His Excellency Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director General of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, affirmed that the Government of the United Arab Emirates adopts a clear and well-defined vision that recognises the strategic importance of space exploration, which is directly linked to daily life—from navigation and communications to advanced sciences. He noted that space is no longer an option but a necessity, stressing that translating vision into reality requires effective partnerships, long-term commitment, and stability in execution. H.E emphasised that the ultimate goal is to turn visions into impactful and inspiring projects that serve society and advance progress towards the future.
His Excellency Al Marri made these remarks during a panel discussion moderated by media personality Brandy Scott, host of The Business Breakfast on Dubai Eye Radio. The session featured Mladen Vukomanović, President of the International Project Management Association (IPMA), who noted that effective project management requires the availability of both technical competencies and behavioural skills.
Vukomanović added highlighted that the future of project management is increasingly shifting towards community-centred projects, where the focus goes beyond traditional methodologies to connecting vision with passion and strengthening behavioural and social competencies. He explained that the role of the project manager is evolving into that of an inspiring leader who engages stakeholders from the early stages, responds to community needs, and delivers sustainable projects. He added that project success is no longer measured solely by time, cost, and quality, but also by community acceptance, sustainability of impact, and long-term societal benefit.
Juan Carlos Sahdala, Group Chief Planning and Project Office at DP World, stated that the approach to project delivery has evolved from a focus on time, cost, and quality to a more holistic model that places safety, sustainability, society, and the environment at the core of operations. He said that DP World is a trade enabler, working to enhance supply chains in emerging markets in ways that directly support community development, while integrating environmental and social considerations from the early stages of projects to ensure sustainable impact in both the short and long term.
