Complimentary parking permits (Type R) for vehicles at non-paid parking locations
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the introduction of a parking permit system designed for inhabitants of residential districts in the Emirate, providing them with free parking permits usable in non-paid parking zones overnight. The step is taken in response to the recurrent spotting of vehicles coming from other places (outsiders) using residential parking slots at night, causing troubles to inhabitants.
These parking permits allow residents of the neighborhood to exclusively use public parking areas in their districts at night. Thus they will be issued with Type R parking cards, depending on the size of the residential unit in terms of the number of rooms, and the type of accommodation (flat, house, villa). The applicant for a parking permit of this type has to have a family accommodation in the area, and support the application by a title deed or an attested tenancy agreement in order to be issued with a residential parking permit usable in non-paid parking zones at night. An AED200 fine will be recorded against vehicles using such parking spaces without permits. The RTA set to start applying this type of parking permits to Al Mankhoul residential area on a tentative manner for a specific period, following, which it can be applied to other areas witnessing the same practice in case the procedure proves successful at Al Mankhoul residential district.
