Opening of a Tunnel with Four Lanes in Each Direction on Umm Suqeim Street

Project End Date:

Q3 of 2025

Project Description

  • Construction of an 800-metre-long tunnel featuring four lanes in each direction, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and reducing congestion.

  • The tunnel is part of the broader Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, extending from its intersection with Al Khail Road to its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

  • The project also includes the development of a surface-level junction controlled by traffic signals to improve traffic regulation and safety.

Project Benefits

  • The tunnel forms part of the Umm Suqeim Corridor Development, which enhances connectivity between four key strategic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road.

  • Increases the road’s capacity to accommodate up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.

  • Significantly improves travel time, reducing the journey between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road by 61% — from 9.7 minutes to just 3.8 minutes.
