Renewing The Ownership And Changing The Plate Number

This service enables you to renew the ownership of a vehicle and to change its plate number in Dubai.

Eligibility

Individual customers, citizens and residents, and companies are eligible to apply for this service.

Required documents

For individuals:

  1. Original Emirates ID to update the information in case of an expired ID
  2. Plate numbers
  3. Report from the police if 1 or both plates are lost and if the plate number of the motorcycle is lost
  4. Electronic insurance of the vehicle
  5. Vehicle technical inspection if needed

For companies:

  1. Official letter in Arabic from the company + copy of the trade license + Letter of Credit Authorization Form (LCAF)
  2. Plate numbers to hand over
  3. Report from the police if 1 or both plates are lost and if the plate number of the motorcycle is lost
  4. Electronic insurance of the vehicle
  5. Vehicle technical inspection if needed

  • Vehicle ownership certificate
  • Plate numbers
  • Expiry sticker.

Service fees

  • 350 AED Light vehicle private/public
  • 400 AED vehicle between 3 and 12 tonnes
  • 650 AED public vehicle between 3 and 12 tonnes
  • 800 AED vehicle exceeding 12 tonnes
  • 1000 AED public vehicle exceeding 12 tonnes
  • 500 AED light mechanical equipment
  • 700 AED public light mechanical equipment
  • 800 AED heavy mechanical equipment
  • 1000 AED public heavy mechanical equipment
  • 120 AED trailer and semi-trailer
  • 300 AED bus with a number of passengers between 14 and 26
  • 600 AED bus with a number of passengers exceeding 26
  • 200 AED motorcycle
  • +20 AED knowledge and innovation feed.

Note: Service fees vary according to the size of the plate: 35 AED for the short plate and 50 AED for the long plate, and 200 AED for Dubai branded plates.

  • Online channels: instantly
  • Service centres: 10 minutes.

Ways to apply

Process

Through online channels:

  • The customer logs in using the username and password
  • The customer enters the vehicle’s details
  • The customer is required to settle the service fees by credit card
  • The customer receives the vehicle ownership certificate, the 2 new plates and the expiry sticker from the Customer Happiness Centre in Al Barsha or Deira and hands over the old plates.

Through service centres or service providers:

  • The customer submits the required documents
  • The customer is required to settle the fees in person
  • The customer hands over the old plates
  • The customer receives the vehicle ownership certificate, the new plates and the expiry sticker.

Through call centre:

  • The customer contacts the call centre on the following number: 8009090
  • The customer requests the renewal of the ownership certificate and the change of the plates
  • The customer is required to pay the fees by credit card
  • The customer receives the vehicle ownership certificate, the 2 new plates and the expiry sticker from the Customer Happiness Centre in Al Barsha or Deira and hands over the old plates.

Terms and conditions

  • The customer or the legal representative must be present in person
  • The remaining validity of the vehicle's insurance must not be less than 6 months
  • In the event of a delay in renewing the license of a vehicle, the customer is required to pay a fine for each month as follows:
    • 25 AED light vehicles
    • 12 AED motorcycle
    • 50 AED heavy vehicles and buses
  • Re-registration terms and conditions are applied if the ownership is expired.
