Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) distributed meals to delivery riders at temporary rest areas designated at bus and metro stations across key areas of the emirate. The meals were provided by the UAE Food Bank in collaboration with Deliveroo.

The initiative comes in appreciation of the daily efforts of delivery riders in serving the community and their vital role in supporting the emirate’s economy and keeping pace with the significant growth witnessed by the delivery sector. It also aligns with quality-of-life objectives and efforts to strengthen Dubai’s position as the world’s best city to live and work.

Ahmed Mahboub, CEO of the Licensing Agency, RTA, said that the initiative highlights RTA’s role as a key contributor to the success of national initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety of delivery riders. It also supports the Midday Break initiative, which protects workers from heat stress during the summer period from 15th June to 15th September, and prohibits work under direct sunlight and in open areas from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Meals were distributed daily at 23 locations at bus and metro stations designated as temporary rest areas for delivery riders across key areas of the emirate. These included Gold Souq Bus Station, Al Satwa Bus Station, Al Jafiliya Bus Station, Al Qusais Bus Station, Al Karama Bus Station, Al Rashidiya Metro Station, Al Furjan Metro Station, DMCC Metro Station, BurJuman Metro Station, Ibn Battuta Metro Station, and e& Metro Station. The selected facilities we were those serving the greatest number of delivery riders benefiting from the initiative.

Manal Obaid bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team at the UAE Food Bank, emphasised the importance of participating in the initiative in appreciation of the efforts of workers, who represent an essential pillar of the economic and social fabric. She noted that the initiative embodies the Bank’s humanitarian mission of supporting those most in need, promoting a culture of preserving food and reducing food waste, and extending a message of humanitarian and national responsibility, while serving as a model of generosity and giving.

Bin Yaroof said: “At the UAE Food Bank, we are committed to supporting all humanitarian initiatives that embody noble objectives and reflect the values of Emirati society.”
