Marking the Centennial of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his legacy of giving to humanity, the Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) will allocate the proceeds of six distinctive number plates, representing milestones in the life of Sheikh Zayed, bearing Code  Code (Z), to charitable activities in the forthcoming Year of Zayed Auction on Nov 17th.

“The RTA will offer 80 captivating licensing plates bearing 2, 3, 4 and five digits of Codes (J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U and X) in its forthcoming open auction. The Auction, which bears the Number 100th, forms part of RTA’s distinctive plates offered by the RTA under specific plans and schedules. The auction will also see the offering of the fancied dual-number plate AA88. The auction will be held on 17 November at Hilton Al Habtour city at 04:30 pm, and registration will open on Sunday 11 November 2018.

The six historical plates whose revenue will be allocated to charitable activities are as follows:

(Z1918): This number has a symbolic reference to the birth year of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It also represents the birth of a nation that roll on the legacy of the founding leader who pledged to build a modern country by relying on patriotic citizens; a country that cares for the good of the entire world. The date has since been an icon for the children of Zayed to take on this drive further.

(Z1946): It refers to the year Sheikh Zayed took the reins of power at Al Ain city. It is the city that had suffered a scarcity of water, but he had turned it into with his vision to an oasis and a modern city.

(Z1968) and (Z68): They bear reference to Al Sameeh meeting, the date of the first meeting between the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum to United Arab Emirates on the Gulf coast and establish a powerful state. They were dreaming then of a hard to achieve a goal, but it had turned into a reality called United Arb Emirates; which is celebrating its 47th National Day this year.

(Z1971): It symbolises the year of establishing the federation and hoisting the UAE flag. It had been a historic day for people of the region who share a common history and culture under the umbrella of the Federation. The UAE had set a successful unionist model reflecting the solid will and determination of its people to write a new history of the region.

(Z2018): It resembles the Centenary of Zayed, i.e. the Year of Zayed in which we now celebrate the glory and achievements of Sheikh Zayed. It offers a time to reflect on the generous hands of the leader not only in the UAE and the region but the world over. Fittingly, the UAE has been named the world's largest donor of development assistance for the fifth year in row.

Registration is possible through the website ( or Customers Happiness Centres at Umm Al-Ramool, Deira, Al-Barsha, and Al-Tawar Municipal Center. Registration for the auction can be made on the same day of the auction (17 November) from 02:00 pm to 04:30 pm.

Participation in the auction requires the potential bidder to have a traffic file in Dubai. A cheque amounting to AED25,000 has to be deposited but can be redeemed in case no successful bid is made. An amount of 120 dirhams has to be paid as subscription fees. Potential bidders can also pay deposits by credit cards or submit the cheque number through RTA website, provided the cheque will be deposited to the counter staff on the auction day. Successful bidders have to settle dues within ten working days starting from the closure of the auction to avoid deposit forfeiture and blacklisting of defaulters. Any bidder can own an unspecified number of plates.

“A dedicated team at RTA’s Call Center (8009090) has been furnished with all information about the auction to respond to any public inquiries relating to the sale. Open auctions are quite popular as they offer direct competitive bidding in an action-packed and transparent atmosphere. Thus they contribute to realising RTA’s third strategic goal (People Happiness), especially for those who have a passion to own distinctive plates,” concluded Al Ali.
