Tripoli Street Improvement Project

Project Description

  • Widening and improving a 12km section of Tripoli Street, beginning at its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road up to Emirates Road
  • Developing intersections along the corridor including:
    • Upgrading the Tripoli-Algeria Streets junction to a tunnel with three lanes in each direction
    • Upgrading the existing roundabout at the Tripoli- Nouakchott Streets intersection to a flyover with three lanes in each direction
    • Upgrading the existing roundabout at the Tripoli- Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Streets junction to a flyover, ensuring free movement in all directions
    • Upgrading the intersection at the extension of Tripoli Street and Emirates Road through the construction of a three-lane bridge to serve the traffic inbound from Tripoli Street to Emirates Road towards Sharjah
    • Constructing two underpasses for camel crossings and widening Camel Crossing No 3 on Emirates Road
    • Constructing a surface intersection (for entry and exit) for traffic coming from Sharjah on Emirates Road
    • Widening Tripoli Street at several locations, with improvements at Bel Remaitha Club and two signalised junctions to replace the existing roundabouts in the Muhaisanah area


Project Benefits

  • Enhancing the link between Dubai and Sharjah
  • Reducing the transit time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road by 64%
  • Channelling about 2,000 vehicles every hour during peak hours from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road
  • Reducing the travel time on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road from its intersection with Tripoli Street to the entrance of Sharjah to 12 minutes
  • Easing traffic flow in the area and improving the entrances to Al Warqa'a and Mirdif along Tripoli Street
  • Increasing traffic flow to about 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions (6,000 vehicles per hour per direction)
  • Cutting waiting time at the intersection of Tripoli and Algeria Streets (Al Warqa'a-Mirdif) from three minutes to less than a minute
