His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), announced that the construction progress on the bridges leading to the entrance of Deira Islands has reached 75%. Works cover the construction of three bridges of six lanes in each direction linked with the bridge crossing over the Water Canal.
The project is undertaken in response to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to complete road projects related to the Shindagha Corridor. RTA expects construction to be completed in June 2020. The construction is done by RTA in coordination with Nakheel. Several directors and engineers of RTA took part in the tour.
This project aims to improve the entry and exit points of Deira Islands at the intersection of Al Khaleej and Abu Baker Al Siddique streets. Construction includes bridges extending 1.6 km in addition to a six-lane bridge extending 140 metres together with a slip road on Deira Island’s side. The existing bridge will also undergo renovations covering re-pavement, rails, traffic signs, utility lines and street lighting.
