Al Khawaneej Roads Improvement Project is one the most important strategic projects to improve the link between Dubai and Sharjah through the vertical roads linking Emirates and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed roads to the Airport Road, and aims to accommodate the current and projected growth in traffic volumes over the next years.
Upon completion, the project will contribute to reducing the trip duration from Emirates Road to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road from 25 minutes to 9 minutes and cutting transit time at the intersection of Al Khawaneej Street with Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street (Al Khawaneej Roundabout) from 330 seconds to 45 seconds. It will also increase the capacity of the intersection from 8,000 vehicles to 16,000 vehicles per hour. It will also cut the transit time on Al Khawaneej and Al Amardi Streets, by converting the roundabout into a surface intersection from 120 seconds to 60 seconds.
