- Question 1: Can the customer use the personal nol card of another person?
Answer 1: No, the personal nol card must be used by the card owner only.
- Question 2: What's the difference between a Personal nol card and a Registered nol card?
Answer 2: A Personal nol card is a blue card issued in the customer’s name, with his photo and name printed on it. It's linked to the customer's Emirates ID and offers the option to choose from specific categories such as Adults, Students, Senior Emiratis or Residents, and People of Determination, each providing targeted fare benefits. The fees of a Personal nol card are 70 AED.
A Registered nol card refers to the existing Silver or Gold nol card that the customer can register using his UAE Pass and personal details. The customer doesn't receive a new card and continues using his current card. The fees for registering an existing nol card is 30 AED.
- Question 3: What’s the procedure if the customer wants to activate the Silver/Gold nol card registration?
Answer 3: The customer receives an SMS once the registration is approved. He must then use the card with the nol Pay app or at the Metro gates (check in and check out) to activate the card from anonymous to registered.
- Question 4: What's the PIN code used for?
Answer 4: The PIN code is useful for security purposes when applying for a refund through online channels.
- Question 5: Who delivers the nol card?
Answer 5: A company registered in RTA delivers the card to the customer’s registered address.
- Question 6: How can the customer track his shipment?
Answer 6: The customer can track the shipment through the link sent by the delivery company or through the tracking link on RTA website.
- Question 7: What happens if a Personal nol card application is rejected? Can the customer reapply?
Answer 7: Yes, the customer can reapply. In case the application is rejected, the customer receives the rejection reason through email and SMS and can reapply.
- Question 8: What are the features of the Personal and Registered nol Cards? Do they offer discounts?
Answer 8: The Personal and Registered nol cards do not offer travel discounts. However, they provide several valuable features, including:
- A top-up limit of up to 5,000 AED .
- Ability to download Travel Passes for 30, 90, or 365 days (one at a time).
- A secure card balance in case of loss or theft, with the option to request a refund online using the customer’s PIN code.

- Question 13: What's the difference between the Student nol card and the ISIC card, and how can the customer apply for each of them?
Answer 13: The Student nol card allows customers to receive a 50% discount on transport fares within Dubai and costs 70 AED.
To apply, the customer must follow the steps below:
- The customer applies through the RTA website or the nol Pay app.
- The customer logs in using the UAE Pass.
- The customer uploads a personal photo with a white background.
- The customer uploads a valid letter from the educational institution (or a valid student ID) confirming that the customer is enrolled in the current academic year.
The ISIC nol card offers the same 50% discount on transport fares, in addition to international ISIC membership benefits such as global offers on travel, education, and lifestyle, and costs 95 AED.
To apply, the customer must follow the steps below:
- The customer applies through the nol Pay app.
- The customer logs in using the UAE Pass.
- The customer uploads a personal photo with a white background.
- The customer uploads a valid letter from the educational institution (or a valid student ID) confirming that the customer is enrolled in the current academic year.
- Question 14: Can the customer switch from a Student nol card to an ISIC card, or vice versa?
Answer 14: Yes, but switching between card types requires cancelling the existing card. The customer must first apply for a refund of the remaining balance and validity through the RTA website or RTA app. After the refund is processed, the customer can apply for the new card type by following the needed steps, submitting the required documents (see previous question), and paying the fees.
- Question 15: How can the customer renew his card or concession if they're expired?
Answer 15: The customer can renew his card or concession through Apply for Renewing or Replacing nol Card.
Renew or Replace Personal nol Card
- Question 1: How can the customer activate the balance of the new issued personal nol card?
Answer 1: To activate the refunded amount, the customer must tap the card using the nol Pay app (via NFC). Alternatively, activation can be done by inserting or tapping the card using any online device such as parking machines or solar top-up machines, or by checking in and out at metro gates).
- Question 2: What happens if a nol card was stolen or lost?
Answer 2: In case of a lost/stolen registered nol card, the customer must submit a refund request immediately at any of RTA authorised channels, and make sure not to perform any type of transaction once the card is reported as stolen or lost.
- Question 3: Should a customer pay the renewal/replacement fees every time he applies for a renewal or replacement in case the personal nol card is lost, expired, or damaged?
Answer 3: Yes.
- Question 4: How long does it take to verify and deliver a personal nol card after applying?
Answer 4: Verification of the application takes up to 2 working days. Once the application is approved and payment is made, the card will be delivered within 4 working days.
- Question 5: What's the procedure if the customer doesn’t receive the card after completing the payment?
Answer 5: The card should be delivered within 4 working days after payment. The customer must track the delivery via the link sent by the delivery company or by using this link. He must also ensure that his registered mobile number is active.
Top Up nol Cards
- Question 1: Can the customer activate his top-up using a bus validator?
Answer 1: No, bus validators can't be used to activate pending top-ups made through channels which require activation. The customer must activate the balance before using the card on the bus.
- Question 2: How can the customer check nol card balance?
Answer 2: The customer can check the nol card balance through nol Pay app or by clicking nol Card Balance from the RTA website homepage.

Purchase nol Cards
- Question 1: What are the features of nol Silver Card?
Answer 1: nol Silver Card is a smart card with a balance that can be loaded up to 1,000 AED for non-registered users and 5,000 AED after registration in the system. The card can be purchased instantly from any Ticket Office or a number of Ticket Vending Machines for only 25 AED including 19 AED card balance.
- Question 2: What is a nol Gold Card, and what is the difference between it and other nol Cards?
Answer 2: nol Gold Card is an anonymous card with the same features as the Silver Card, but it gives the customer the privileged access to the Metro’s Gold Class seats for premium charges.
- Question 3: Can the customer use the nol Gold Card on all transport means?
Answer 3: Yes. The Gold Card can be used on all public transport means. It can also be used at RTA parking machines to pay for parking, in addition to the previously mentioned features.
- Question 4: Will the customer pay Gold Class premium fares even if there were no available seats in the Gold Class Metro cars?
Answer 4: Yes, if the customer uses his Gold Card on the Metro or Tram, he will always be charged the Gold Class premium fare, even if there were no seats available in the designated Gold Class car. But if he uses it on the Bus or any other transport means like taxi vehicles, that don't offer a Gold Class service, he will be charged the regular fare.
Purchase Travel Pass
- Question 1: Can the customer purchase a Travel Pass through nol Pay if his nol card is not a virtual card?
Answer 1: Yes, virtual and physical nol card holders can purchase a Travel Pass through nol Pay application.
