Speeding up Knowledge Sharing and Talent Development


Knowledge sharing session in 18th International Road Federation

The third day of the 18th International Road Federation (IRF) World Meeting and Exhibition was held on Tuesday, Nov 9th, 2021 under the theme: Speeding up Knowledge Sharing and Talent Development. 

Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty, Trustee Chair, University of Central Florida, Pegasus Professor and Dept. Chair, and Dr. Benjamin Colucci, University of Puerto Rico Transportation Engineering Professor delivered speeches in the session which was moderated by Shelley Row, Former Director, ITS Joint Program Office. 

Row began the session by praising the Youth Council of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), noting that the council was a successful initiative to build a new generation of Emirati youth to contribute effectively to the development of public transport projects.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty made a presentation on effective academic learning and emphasized that academic learning is not limited to university students and engineering colleges but extends to specialists and experts working in the field of roads and mass transit networks. 

"I encourage and support efforts to establish colleges specialised in transportation engineering, such as the college established by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the city of Dammam," said Abdel-Aty. He referred to the importance of using modern technologies in transportation and integrating with smart cities. He explained that University of Central Florida established a college for undergraduate students to specialise in smart city engineering.

Dr. Benjamin Colucci started his speech by a presentation stating that effective learning should be collective. The presentation was interspersed with interesting gestures and enjoyable movements that pleased attendees who quickly interacted.

“Roads and public transport entities must attach great importance to modern technologies and adapt them to achieve the highest levels of road and transportation safety. The serious and continuous efforts in this regard will reduce the number of traffic fatalities,” he concluded.
