Scooping Safety and Globe of Honour awards in public transport


(RTA is the first government public transport to clinch the awards worldwide)

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has won the Sword of Honour for health and safety Award, and the Globe of Honour for excellence in environmental management Award from the British Safety Council, UK.


As such, RTA has become the first public transport entity to obtain these coveted awards worldwide. Obtaining the two awards is indicative of RTA’s relentless efforts to improve its corporate performance to achieve the highest standards of health, safety and environment (HSE) throughout its public transport activities.

 
HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), commended the obtaining of the two awards as they reflect the vision of the Government to make Dubai a sustainable city and a safe environment. He stressed RTA’s keenness to ensure the highest HSE standards in public transport operations.

 
Al Tayer made these remarks while accepting the two award trophies from Nasser Bu Shehab, CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector; and Eng. Nada Jasim, Director of Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning, in the presence of several other concerned personnel.

 
“These two awards illustrate RTA’s pioneering efforts towards realising its vision of Safe and Smooth Transport and stand out as a true representation of the performance & efficiency of HSE management systems,” said Bu Shehab.

 
“The Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning Department has achieved a five-star rating in the comprehensive assessment carried by a team of HSE experts. RTA has achieved 95% rating in the assessment of the HSE systems, and 92% in the assessment of Environment Management systems. It makes every effort to comply with the HSE standards in coordination with various concerned bodies internally and externally. It always seeks to screen clients’ needs and respond to them under specific standards,” he added.

 
“In the name of the Board of Trustees and employees of the British Safety Council, we congratulate RTA on achieving the highest HSE & environmental standards depicted by winning of both the Sword of Honour & Globe of Honour Awards. The two awards rank among the most prestigious international awards for public and private entities to compete in,” said Lawrence Waterman, Chairman of the. British Safety Council.
