RTA rolls out programme to train 1,000 Emirati students in engineering and technology

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has launched a programme for training 1,000 Emirati students under a specialist programme by offering them diverse and specialist training courses befitting their academic majors. The programme, which is coordinated with RTA partners, aims to qualify inductees for the job market. 

“The training programme for 1,000 students targeted outstanding Emirati graduates by attaching them to specialist training courses in collaboration with RTA’s strategic partners among key global firms such as Deutsche Bahn, International Association of Public Transport (UITP), International Road Federation (IRF), ERTICO, Keolis-MHI rail management & operation, and LinkedIn website,” said Athary Mohammed, Director of Human Resources and Development, Corporate Administrative Support Services, RTA.

The programme, which started in November 2022 and runs until the end of May 2023, focuses on scientific and administrative specialities required in the job market such as electrical, electronic, software, and civil engineering as well as computer science, and cyber security.
“RTA had set out a roadmap for the programme such that it would achieve the targeted results, coordinated with top universities and educational institutions, and compiled the details of outstanding students. Then it listed the strategic partners, identified the training programmes and started the implementation accordingly,” added Athary.

27 Engineering majors

The programme included 27 engineering and future disciplines that RTA needs such as software engineering, civil engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, information technology, entrepreneurship, innovation, and marketing. It also focused on areas of infrastructure, smart cities, railway operation, future foresight, asset management, cybersecurity, autonomous and smart transport, and project management. Students were selected from 7 universities and public and private educational institutions.

Selection criteria

Specific criteria had been set for the selection of affiliated students. Mainly, students have to be citizens of the UAE, the field of study has to be within the disciplines needed RTA, graduation was not more than 3 years, and have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or more.

Deliverables 

The programme is set to attract and qualify specialised national competencies, and invest in educating and qualifying students by providing them with the required job skills, besides attracting a bunch of outstanding students to the RTA.
