Organising a Hackathon Focused on AI-Powered Mobility Solutions

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently organised a hackathon titled “Generative AI Meets Open Data,” which attracted the participation of more than 70 students from various colleges and universities across the UAE. The event was organised by RTA’s Public Transport Agency in coordination with the Corporate Technology Support Services Sector and the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, in collaboration with BytePlus, a global technology company renowned for developing innovative digital solutions. The hackathon aimed to leverage available open data sets to develop AI-powered mobility solutions.
The hackathon serves as an ideal platform for attracting creative minds from outside RTA, enabling the integration of fresh and diverse perspectives within its corporate innovation framework. This diversity of viewpoints enhances RTA’s ability to develop more comprehensive and effective solutions for the future of mobility in Dubai.
The partnership between RTA and BytePlus reflects the firm commitment to empowering establishments through the adoption of cutting-edge technological solutions. The level of creativity and talent demonstrated by the participants has been a great source of inspiration, and the company looks forward to supporting further initiatives that harness data and artificial intelligence to serve the public interest.
The role of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, through its Innovation and Pioneering Department, was instrumental in the success of the event. The sector coordinated with universities, colleges, and start-ups to invite their participation, in addition to designing a clear evaluation process for the submitted ideas. It also contributed to supporting and guiding youth throughout the various stages of the hackathon, while ensuring that innovative ideas were registered in RTA’s approved systems to safeguard intellectual property rights. The sector further followed up on the implementation of outstanding ideas and measured their impact on RTA’s future operations and services.
The hackathon saw nine teams advance to the final stage, where they presented their projects before a panel of experts representing RTA and its strategic partners. The projects were evaluated against clear and well-defined criteria.
The winning teams in the top three positions will be honoured later this month during the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport 2025 , with the opportunity to showcase their ideas at local innovation events. They will also have the prospect of partnering with RTA in the future development and implementation of their award-winning projects and innovations.
