Opening lane separating traffic from Khawneej to Nad Al Hamar

new direction map

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open (Friday 30 Nov 2018) a lane separating traffic inbound from Al Khawaneej and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Roads (via the Airport Rd.) heading to Nad Al Hamar or Airport Tunnel (via Beirut St. in the direction of Al Qusais and Sharjah), from the traffic heading to Dubai (via the Airport Rd.)

Motorists heading to Nad Al Hamar or Airport St. (in the direction of Beirut St, Al Qusais and Sharjah) should avoid the flyover at Rashidiya Metro Station and instead, drive towards the surface junction opposite the Dubai Airport Royal Air Wing to the right side of the bridge and take the new lane; which has an exit to the Airport Rd.  Motorists heading to Dubai (via the Airport Rd.) can driving through the bridge.

“The opening of the new lane, along with the associated traffic changes, separates the Dubai-bound traffic from Nad Al Hamar and the traffic from Nad Al Hamar heading back. Thus, the old bridge will now only lead backwards, and the new bridge will only lead leftwards in the direction of Dubai offering smooth traffic flow from Nad Al Hamar to Dubai. Traffic on the Airport Tunnel and roads leading to Al Khawaneej St. before the Tunnel, will remain unchanged,” said Eng. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency.

She called on motorists to watch out for directional signs and arrows indicating their destinations. “Motorists are advised to choose the designated lanes for each direction early, and avoid sudden swerves or lane-changes. They also have to avoid slowing down in a way that disrupts the traffic flow, especially those heading to Nad Al Hamar, and Airport Rd (in the direction of Al Qusais and Sharjah). They need to use the signalised surface junction of Rashidiya (nearby Dubai Airport Royal Air Wing), and take the right lane early to avoid disrupting the traffic on the bridge,” she noted.

“The Airport Rd. Improvement Project steps up the capacity of the Airport Rd. by 5000 additional vehicles per hour. It also enhances the traffic safety and reduces the journey time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Casablanca Street from 30 to 5 minutes.

“The RTA is progressing ahead with improvements of Dubai’s roads by offering integrated solutions for safe roads and marine transport networks in line with Dubai’s Strategic Plan. The plan caters to the needs of hosting Expo 2020 and demographic growth, and stimulates development and investment in the Emirate,” concluded Bin Adai.
