Bahraini Minister: Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport is a Unique Platform for New Horizons

His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Bahrain, stated in his keynote speech themed “Building Ecosystems for Smarter, Greener Transport” that the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport 2025 represents a distinguished initiative, offering the world a platform to explore new horizons and envision innovative pathways towards shaping a mobility future that is more sustainable, efficient, and inclusive.
His Excellency noted that autonomous mobility is not simply a technological advancement, but a real opportunity to rethink how cities function, how their economies grow, and how communities contribute to reducing the environmental footprint. He stressed that the future we aspire to rests on an integrated system built on flexible policies, advanced technology, sustainable investment, and close collaboration among all partners, ensuring innovation that is both responsible and safe.
His Excellency explained that Bahrain is establishing the foundations for such an integrated system through a flexible legislative framework, world-class digital infrastructure, and a strong government commitment that strengthens Bahrain’s position as a leading regional hub for next-generation mobility solutions.
His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Abdullah Al Khalifa affirmed that realising ambitions requires two key elements: pilot programmes that demonstrate their effectiveness in real-world conditions, and sustainable investments that secure their continuity. In this context, the Kingdom of Bahrain is exploring the creation of dedicated testing zones, including smart logistics corridors and advanced connectivity projects, while also examining the potential for developing dedicated roads for autonomous vehicles in other strategic locations.
