A Session on Clean Energy, Autonomous Mobility, and Dubai’s Sustainable Future

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), stated: “Hosting the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport 2025 reflects the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, in reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and forward thinking through expanding the adoption of self-driving transport technologies across all sectors and levels.”
He added: “Dubai has embraced an ambitious mission to make 25% of all journeys in the emirate smart and autonomous by 2030. This is not merely a goal, but a noble mission that embodies Dubai’s determination to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution and build a smart, sustainable, efficient, and integrated city.”
Delivering a keynote address on the opening day of the fourth edition of the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport, organised by RTA and themed: Smart Mobility and Clean Energy: Envisioning Dubai’s Sustainable Future, where DEWA participates as a strategic partner, His Excellency said: “The development of mobility goes beyond electric or self-driving vehicles. It also encompasses the integration of clean energy, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence into every aspect of urban life.
Saeed Al Tayer stated: “By mid-2025, DEWA had provided more than 42,000 megawatt-hours of electricity for charging electric vehicles. The number of electric vehicles in the emirate now exceeds 41,000. Dubai has witnessed remarkable growth in EV adoption since 2015, with registrations under the Green Charger initiative rising from just 14 customers to more than 19,000 by the end of July 2025.”
“DEWA plays a pivotal role in Dubai’s transformation into a smart and sustainable city by reshaping the future of energy and mobility. Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park — the world’s largest single-site solar park — is a cornerstone of both the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These strategies aim to meet 100% of Dubai’s energy needs from clean sources by 2050.”
He added: “In addition to the Solar Park, the Shams Dubai initiative has enabled more than 8,600 buildings across the emirate to generate electricity through photovoltaic solar power, adding more than 740 MW to DEWA’s grid. At the same time, through our Smart Grids Strategy, we are investing nearly AED 7 billion to employ artificial intelligence and automation to enhance the reliability and efficiency of electricity and water services.”
