7 public awareness messages for crossing tramway

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has released and awareness campaign that carried 7 educational messages for the public, namely motorists and pedestrians entering the Tram Zone, urging them to comply with the safety and security rules. The objective of these messages is to enhance the safety of road users to help them avoid crashing into the tram and protect public property including the tram, which is an attractive transit mode for a large number of residents and tourists.


Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb, Director of Rail Operations, Rail Agency, RTA, stressed RTA’s ongoing efforts to raise the safety awareness across all segments of the society,especially road users, motorists and riders. He urged them to ensure the optimal use of the tram and observe the safety as well as security means charted by RTA in this regard.


The seven messages are: Stop. Do not enter the tram zone. It calls on the public to stay out of the tram-only area. Stop. Look right before you cross. It tells the public that a tram may be coming from the right side. Stop. Look left before you cross. It tells the public that a tram may be coming from the left side. Stop. Look left and right before you cross. It calls on the public to beware of a tram that may be coming from the left or right side. Keep your eyes on the road ahead. It calls on the public to watch out for a tram passing from left to right or right to left. Obey the traffic signal. Red light means STOP and watch out as the Tram is approaching from your right. This message alerts that the tramway is on the right side. So, it calls on the public to be watchful. Obey the traffic signal. The Dubai Tram is the first tramway project outside Europe powered by a ground-based electric supply system extending along the track, thus obviating the need for catenary cables. It is also the world's first tramway that uses Platform Screen Doors in passenger stations fully aligned with the tram’s doors opening and shutting mechanism, providing maximum convenience, safety and security for passengers, and at the same time protecting the quality of the air-conditioning in the interior of both stations and carriages from external climatic conditions.
