RTA extends deadline for submissions to Sustainable Transport Award to Nov 10th
The Higher Organizing Committee of the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) has announced the extension of the deadline set for receiving submissions from public, semi-public and private entities across the UAE to November 10th, 2017 instead of October 15th, 2017. The step has been taken in response to several requests received from entities interested in participating in the forthcoming 10th edition of the award.
Nasir Hamad Bu Shehab, CEO of Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector cum Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of DAST, RTA, said, “The RTA opted to extend the deadline for the online submissions to DAST (www.rta.ae/dast) to allow more time for making submissions and enrich the Award as well. The Committee has completed several stages and is gearing for holding the 10th edition of DAST this year.
“Registration in various categories of DAST can be made in simple steps through the Award’s website to save time & effort. It consolidates the Smart Government practices advocated by the Dubai Government to facilitate transactions for all customers, bring happiness to people, and enrich their DAST experience to make it smooth, useful and enjoyable.
“Through launching this Award, the RTA intends to hit several objectives including educating & encouraging individuals and social organisations to play an active & positive role in supporting the fruition of RTA’s objectives of improving the infrastructure and means of public transport. The award contributes to showcasing the leading role of the RTA in bolstering the partnership & cooperation with various entities & strategic partners in the fields of transport, safety and conserving the environment.
“Objectives sought by the RTA through the Award include highlighting the importance of sustainable transport to make it part of the main concerns of various business organisations, and raising the awareness, sense of responsibility and the initiative spirit amongst various community segments particularly firms and establishments. They also include supporting successful initiatives in the fields of mobility, safety and environment and promoting them across the business community, and motivating the creativity, pioneering spirit and initiatives in a host of mobility aspects to maximise the benefit of all parties,” continued Abu Shehab.
DAST consists of two main divisions: Main Categories and Special Categories. Main categories comprise four awards; the first is Mobility Management, which focuses on applied practices & initiatives that have contributed to raising the efficiency of using various mass transit systems. The second is Mobility Safety, which is concerned with practices & initiatives that contribute to raising the security & safety of riders of various transit means. The third is Environmental Conservation, which is devoted to any practice or initiative capable of reducing the negative impact of transit systems on the environment. The fourth is People of Determination Initiatives; which contribute directly or indirectly to easing the mobility of the disabled.
The special categories comprise four awards as well; the first is the Best Academic Research for academicians submitting the best research on sustainable transport. It is open to all community members, provided the compliance with the standard conditions of scientific research. The second is the Best Student Project; which relates to the best student project in the field of sustainable transport across the UAE in the field of sustainable transport. The third is the Best Media Coverage; which targets members of media who made the best media coverage of sustainable transport nation-wide. The fourth award is the Best Media Team; which aims at identifying the best media team that has made the best coverage of sustainable transport across the nation.
