RTA carries four thousand inspections of truck driving standards in 2014
Jamal Assada, Director of Monitoring & Enforcement at RTA Licensing Agency, said: “Inspection processes are conducted in the context of verifying the compliance of heavy truck drivers with the prescribed loads, and ensuring that loads are properly distributed to the loading surface of the truck. The campaigns also intended to check the availability of security & safety stipulations, preventive measures, vehicle’s road worthiness, validity of driving licenses & vehicle registration, and the compliance with the stipulations of transporting hazardous materials set in conjunction with the Directorate General of Civil Defence.
“The most frequent technical faults detected in heavy trucks last year order-wise were: 5,711 faults relating to tires, 5,702 faults of lacking red rear light, 4,796 faults of lacking security & safety accessories, 4,402 faults relating to unclear plates, and 2,999 faults of lacking road worthiness,” he continued.
“Three surprise inspection campaigns were launched last year; the first was from 3 to 28 August targeting trucks and trailers covering 3609 vehicles and resulted in reporting 1598 violating vehicles having 2398 offences in addition to 91 unregistered trailers. The second campaign was launched on 31 August and lasted on 11 September focusing on accessories fitted to vehicles where 1729 vehicles were inspected comprising 450 pickups and 1279 trucks & trailers. The campaign revealed that the proportion of removing accessories was 82% following circulars issued to technical testing centers stating that any vehicle fitted with such accessories must not pass the annual technical test. It also intended to raise drivers’ awareness about negative impacts of such an offence in marring the gorgeous outlook of the Dubai streets. The third campaign, which was run during the period 16 to 20 November, targeted vehicles at the waiting yard of the Dragon Mart covering 718 vehicles and resulting in 159 offences reported against 156 vehicles,” revealed the Director of Monitoring & Enforcement at RTA Licensing Agency.
“The RTA is making huge efforts to maintain the security & safety of roads as well as the urbanized appearance of the Dubai Emirate through launching surprise inspection campaigns targeting trucks, trailers and light vehicles. Such types of vehicles are key ingredients of the domestic economy; and it is therefore imperative to ensure they comply with the driving standards. The RTA is always keen on staging awareness campaigns to highlight these specifications and their role in ensuring the safety of road and users,” concluded Assada.
