Al Khawaneej Corridor
Project Description
- The development of three main intersections on Al Khawaneej and Al Amardi streets.
- The construction of service roads with a length of 23 kilometres on Al Khawaneej and Al Amardi streets.
- The completion of a tunnel on Al Khawaneej Street, consisting of three lanes in each direction.
- The implementation of a surface intersection controlled by traffic lights, ensuring free and safe transportation of traffic on Al Khawaneej Street.
- The development of a roundabout at the intersection of Al Khawaneej Street and Al Amardi Street.
- The development of an intersection between Al Omari Street and Emirates Street via the construction of a flyover across Emirates Road towards Al Awir area, with a capacity of two lanes in each direction.
- The construction of a pedestrian crossing bridge near the Arabian Center on Al Khawaneej Street.
Project Benefits
- Reduced the journey time from Emirates Road to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road from 25 minutes to 9 minutes.
- Reinforcement of the airport road axis and linking Al Awir and Al Khawaneej areas.
- Increased the capacity of Al Khawaneej Interchange from 8,000 vehicles per hour to 16,000 vehicles.
- Reduced the waiting time at the intersection of Al Khawaneej and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Streets from 330 seconds to 45 seconds.
- Reduced The waiting time at the intersection of Al Khawaneej and Al Amardi Streets has been reduced from 120 seconds to 60 seconds.
